I have been teaching at UNBC since 1993. I did my graduate work in England at the L.S.E. (PhD) and Sussex (M.A.) and taught at Southampton, Bristol and Sussex before moving to Canada. After six years at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax I moved to UNBC where I was the Founding Chair in Economics.
My research interests lie in the areas of globalization and development. I have looked particularly at the political economy of development in China, Asian regionalism and the international monetary system. I also do research on the BC economy and on how global trends are experienced at local levels.
I served as the President of the Canadian Association for the Study of International Development (CASID) in 2000-2001 and as the President of the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of British Columbia (CUFA BC) from 2008-2010. Since 2006 I have been Profesor Asociados, Doctorado en Estudios del Desarrollo, Universidad Autόnoma de Zacatecas, Mexico.
I am currently Co-Director of the Western Regional Research Centre of the Urban Aboriginal Knowledge Network.
Outside of these activities I enjoy playing soccer, watching soccer and (mostly enjoy) supporting West Ham United.
